FEATURING

Julia Brownley

CONGRESSWOMAN JULIA BROWNLEY (CD-26)

In 2019, Julia was appointed by the Speaker of the House to serve on the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis because of her long career fighting at the forefront of environmental policy. She was a co-author of the Committee’s 2020 report, Solving the Climate Crisis: The Congressional Action Plan for a Clean Energy Economy and a Healthy and Just America, which was praised as “the most detailed and well-thought-out plan for addressing climate change that has ever been a part of US politics.”

Sydney Kamlager

CONGRESSWOMAN SYDNEY KAMLAGER-DOVE (CD-37) (Invited)

Sydney is Vice Ranking Member of the Natural Resources Committee and cosponsor of the Donald A. McEachin Environmental Justice for All Act. During her time in the California State Legislature, she coauthored legislation to reduce single-use plastic packaging in landfills by 75% and fought for legislation to close the Inglewood Oil Field, removing carbon from the atmosphere and ensuring clean air and water for communities across California.

*Special Guest Congressional Candidate TBA*

Dear Member,

President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is the most important federal legislative effort, ever, aimed squarely at addressing climate change, and, incidentally, towards addressing our commitments as a country. It implements California’s dramatic moves to limit the Greenhouse Gases pouring into our atmosphere at a national level. The Congresswomen will address the Scope and Goals of the IRA, its impact on US Economy and some of the programs intended to stimulate clean power generation and promote new tech.

An existential threat is looming and we MUST re-elect President Biden and VP Harris, plus retain the Senate and Take Back the House in 2024 to prevent it!

A small donation will help us pay for venue rentals, continue providing programs illuminating the work that President Biden has done, and to introduce the Club to candidates running for U.S. Senate and Congress as well as our local state and city electeds. We will present panels on the issues of the day to keep you informed, and in the fall, a ballot measure forum with the pros and cons of each ballot proposition.

Please Join Us! Be More Informed – Talking Points Abound – Refute the Nay-Sayers and Keep President Biden in the White House!

IN MEMORIAM

Lorraine (Lori) Edith Geittmann

December 11, 1933 – January 5, 2024

Lori Geittman, a former president of Beach Cities Democrats as well as a local newspaper reporter and probation officer, was a strong supporter of the Democratic Party and a dedicated activist for numerous political campaigns and issues. She at one time served as staff for elected officials in Washington, DC, and treasured the memory from those years of having attended the inauguration John F. Kennedy. Lori was delegate to the State and County Democratic Party numerous times and held many party positions, including Chair of the Senior Caucus. She was also a delegate to the National Convention in 1980 and was involved in local government, serving on several commissions and boards. Lori could be counted on as a loyal ally or a fierce opponent, depending on which side of her strongly held beliefs you found yourself…

Dear Members,

While we were so looking forward to seeing you “live” at our first meeting of 2024, in the interest of public safely (yours!) the Board voted Monday night to hold our meeting virtually on Zoom. We have a history of very successful Zoom meetings over the past three years, and look forward to another great and informative one on Saturday!

Did you also know that the Federal Government will reimburse you to convert to more efficient appliances, appliances that save you money every time you use them while saving the Earth from Greenhouse Gases? Andrew Ellis, a founder of Climate Reality Project Los Angeles, will speak to the details of the consumer benefits available in the IRA’s electrification and efficiency programs.

Please Join Us! Be More Informed – Refute the Nay-Sayers and Keep President Biden in the White House!
