Dear All,
We had a terrific General Meeting at AMVETS on Wednesday, Sept. 19, with well over 100 people coming to hear the debate between Ben Allen and Sandra Fluke, who are running to replace Ted Lieu for Senate District 26.
The debate was in a conversational setting, the candidates sitting in easy chairswith Scott Mayers and I as moderators flanking them.  Very informal, with the candidates answeringquestions and talking to one another, asking for clarification occasionally and building on what the other had to say.  Scott moved the questions right along, gently prodding answers from each candidate.

While they were in accord on many of the issues, Sandra Fluke seemed the stronger candidate and the Club voted overwhelmingly to endorse her, by a vote of 47 to Ben Allen's 14.  There were 4 no endorsement votes.

If you missed the debate and/or would like to review the candidate's positions, please go to our YouTube channel:

Congratulations to Sandra Fluke!

Proposition 46, MICRA, was also debated, with Michael Kapp on the Support side for raising the medical insurance compensation cap, Tammy Smick, who lost her son Alex also saying a few words inSupportTeri Holoman was the speaker for the Opposition side.  Things got pretty heated in this debate, with each side contesting the validity of the other's position.
The vote was 34 Support, 13 Oppose, 12 No Endorsement.  Neither side got the 60% needed for endorsement.

Thanks to all those attending, our Board and Volunteers as always, and especially to Keith Jeffreys, Executive Director of AMVETS, for his amazing generosity in hosting the evening.

Warm regards,

Cara Robin
President
